How can I tell if my Mac is covered by AppleCare?
Visit Apple's Check Your Service Coverage page and enter your serial number. If you need help finding your serial number, visit Apple's knowledge base article on How to find the serial number of your Apple product.
What does my AppleCare Protection Plan cover?
The AppleCare Protection Plan covers manufacturer defects. If a fan stops working or the hard drive fails under warranty, Apple may replace it under AppleCare. Examples of things not covered under Applecare are most software problems, an application that won't launch, data recovery, data transfer to a new Mac, or a Mac with liquid damage.
If you feel you need AppleCare coverage, please call AppleCare at 800-257-2273 before taking your computer anywhere.
Do I need to make an appointment to have my computer repaired at WinTech?
No. We operate on a first-come-first-served basis. Your repair is added to the repair queue as soon as your drop off your Mac. You may drop off your Mac at our location Monday through Friday from 9:00am - 5:00pm.
What do I need to bring in with my computer that is getting repaired?
In addition to your computer, please bring your power cord, and any installation discs that you may have. For desktop computers, you do not need to bring your mouse and/or keyboard unless they are related to the problem you are having.
What is the average turnaround time for a repair?
We can repair some issues same day, others can take 1-5 business days. Some solutions come quickly, while others require ongoing diagnostics and/or part orders. Although expedited shipping is almost always an option, we do need enough time to run the required diagnostics, perform troubleshooting, order and receive any parts, make the repair, and test. Our goal is to return your computer as quickly as it can be done correctly!
I live far away, can I ship in my Mac for repair?
Unfortunately, no. We require the machine be dropped off and picked up in person to protect your property in case the package gets damaged or lost in transit. As an alternative for Macs, Apple offers a mail-in repair service where you can ship your computer into an Apple repair depot, have it repaired, and then Apple will ship it back to you. To find out more, please contact AppleCare at 800-275-2273.
Can you move data from one computer to another?
Absolutely, also between operating systems. If you have an older computer that you need data such as photos, music, applications, and documents transferred from to another computer, we can perform that service for you. The capabilities of transferring specific items like applications is largely operating system-dependent.
Can you backup my data for me?
Yes. If you don't have a reliable, automated backup solution to protect the files on your computer, you are at risk if losing those files. Data backup is essential for all computers. We also recommend using an offsite data backup. If you would like your data backed up, you may consider bringing an external drive with your repair. We can also special order a drive for you.
Do you repair both PCs and Macs?
Yes. We can post-warranty service and repair Apple computers as well as all brands of Windows-based computers.
Do you do onsite calls?
Yes. Most repairs must be complete on a repair bench, but we can perform a variety of services in your home. We provide one-on-one training, new computer setup, wired and wireless network configuration, application installation and troubleshooting, ongoing maintenance, backup solutions, cloud service configuration, and general Q&A sessions.
Do you repair iPhones, iPads, or iPods?
Not at this time.
